Aspirin (Bayer)

A

MOA: Cox-1 inhibitor = decr platelet aggregation
Indications: pain, fever, antiplatelet (81mg)
DO NOT ADMINISTER TO CHILDREN- can cause Reyes Syndrome (neuro deficits, can lead to encephalopathy, liver damage)
Can cause salicylism (incr HR, tinnitus, deep breathing, fever, HYPOglycemia)
CAN pass in breast milk

Clopidogril (Plavix)

A

MOA: decr platelet aggregation
may be used in conjunction w aspirin
similar a/e to aspirin

Thrombolytic Med

A

Alteplase (Activase/TPA)
MOA: activates plasminogen to breakdown clots)
Indication: acute ischemic stroke
ADMINISTER W/IN 3 hrs of the FIRST symptom
A/E: intracranial hemorrhage, GI/GU bleeding, bruising
can be dangerous bc thins blood a lot
