Initials
Do NOT use periods with initials unless a more specific rule requires them
Hyphens
Separate letters with hyphens, like F-B-I or N-B-A
MPG/MPH
Do not abbreviate either & hyphenate both phrases:
Miles-per-gallon
Miles-per-hour
States
Spell out the names of states when used in the body of a story
City & State
Always put a comma between the names of the city and the state, and after the name of the state
Ex: Wichita, Kansas
Titles
Abbreviate Mr., Mrs., Ms., & Dr.
Spell out any other titles
UN
U-N is acceptable in all references for United Nations and may be used as either a noun or adjective
US
Spell out United States as a noun
Use U-S as an adjective before a noun
Junior/Senior
Spell out junior or senior with no comma
Do NOT Abbreviate:
Assistant
Association
Attorney
Building
District
Government
President
Professor
Superintendent
The days of the week
Standalone Cities
Do not need the comma and state after them
