Synecdoche

A

a figure of speech in which a part is used for the whole, the whole for a part, the specific for the general, or the material for the thing made from it, “all hands on deck” is a demand for all of the crew to help, yet the word “hands”—just a part of the crew—stands in for the whole crew.
