Appendicular Skeleton Flashcards
Pectoral Girdle
Made up of the scapula and clavicle, articulates with the humerus and sternum
Clavicle
Articulates with the sternum at the sternoclavicular joint. Also articulates with the acromion of the scapula at the acromioclavicular joint
Scapula
- Spine
- Acromion
- Coracoid Process
- Glenoid Cavity
- Supraspinous, infraspinous, and subscapular fossa
Acromion
A process that sticks off of the scapula’s spine and articulates with the clavicle
Coracoid Process
Juts off of the scapula just above the glenoid cavity, wrapping around the anterior side of the GC
Glenoid Cavity
The socket into which the humerus of the arm fits, forming the glenohumeral joint
Supraspinous and Infraspinous Fossa
- Supraspinous is a fossa above the scapular spine for muscle and ligament articulation
- Infraspinous is the same, but below the scapular spine
Subscapular Fossa
Fossa on the anterior side of the scapula
Upper Limb Bones
Humerus, Ulna, Radius, Carpals, Metacarpals, Phalanges
Humerus Surface Features
- Greater and lesser tubercle
- Capitulum
- Trochlea
- Coronoid fossa
- Olecranon fossa
- Medial Epicondyle
-Greater and lesser tubercles
- Proximal humerus, near the head
- Greater is posterior, lesser is anterior
Capitulum (humerus)
Articulates with the head of the radius
Trochlea
Articulates with the head of the ulna
Olecranon Fossa
Posterior humerus, a fossa where the olecranon process of the ulna articulates
Coronoid Fossa
Anterior humerus, a fossa where the coronoid process of the ula articulates
Medial Epicondyle
Located at the distal end of the humerus, it is an epicondyle which points toward the middle of the body
Radial Tuberosity
A tuberosity on the radius which articulates with the ulna at the radial notch
Radial Notch
A notch on the ulna which articulates with the radial tuberosity
Interosseous Membrane
A membrane of connective tissue which connects the radius and ulna, and the tibia and fibula
Ulnar Notch
a notch on the distal end of the radius which articulates with the head of the ulna. This makes us the distal radioulnar joint
Styloid Process
Located on the anterior side of both the distal radius and distal ulna, it is a process which points toward the carpals
Radius articulates with these carpals
Scaphoid, Lunate, Triquetrum
Proximal Carpals
Scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum, pisiform
Distal Carpals
Hamate, capitate, trapezoid, trapezium
