Indications
Management of HTN alone or with either meds, Management of HF for those who cannot tolerate ACE Inhibitors, stroke prevention
How it works
Blocks vasoconstrictor and aldosterone producing effects of angiotensin II at receptor sites, decreasing BP
SE
Hypotension, back pain, myalgia, sinusitis, hepatitis, elevated K+, rare angioedema
Nursing Interventions
Assess orthostatic BP, Monitor daily weight (fluid overload), Monitor following: may increase in K+, BUN, creatinine, AST/ALT, uric acid, and decrease H/H
Patient teaching
May rarely cause angioedema, report facial swelling and dyspnea, take at the same time every day, cautious for orthostatic hypotension, do not use salt substitutes
