Q
  1. no evidence to suggest that it is the God of classical theism ( if we accept that universe was created )
A
  • could be lesser being
  • H : cause = proportional 2 beliefs SO paley : FLAWED WORLD = FLAWED CREATOR ( low key contradicts the omni - qualities of God of classical theism)
  • could be lesser / limited designer
2
Q

1.1 idea’s surrounding limited design

A
  • design = usually teamwork effort ( no obvi. reason to disqualify a team of lesser, smaller deity of God’s (no limit - don’t have to be singular God, working alone)
  • no reason to assume designer is metaphysical ( intelligent minds = intelligent bodies ) // could have been mortal who is long dead
3
Q
  1. existence of evil + suffering = flawed God

Epicurus’ question abt existence of evil = not ANSWERED

A

god = omnipotent : willing 2 prevent but doesn’t = impotent

god = omni-benevolent : able, not willing : malevolent

evil = exists : God = both able + willing = where does evil come into play ?

INSTEAD OF CONFRONTING THESE CONTRADIC`TIONS, THEOLOGIANS SPEND > TIME INVENTING IDEAS 2 CONFRONT GOD’S BEHAVIOUR

4
Q
  1. Analogies between universe + machine creation = unsound
A

world = vast growing veggie ; grows self w/o need for a designer
evolution ! uses Darwin ideology : strong back - up

5
Q
  1. to make analogy between designer of human machines + designer of universe = anthropomorphism
A

trying 2 explain via human knowledge + understanding
2 know how how universe was made, need experience in such a feat ( v impossible ) so wouldn’t know type of designer + what it takes to do so
our experience = based on human inventions

6
Q
  1. universe could’ve come abt. by chance, into comparatively ordered state
A
  • infinite monkey theorem : give monkey enough time will type entire works of Shakespeare
  • Hume’s’ abides by ‘epicurean hypothesis’ : basic parts were invisible atoms
  • world is nothing more or less than changing arrangements
  • 21st cent. physicist = multiverse theory if correct : some universes will be chaotic, ordered , incomplete
