Autoimmune Flashcards
(43 cards)
ANA is used to:
detect and monitor autoimmune disorders
What are the primary diseases associated with ANA?
MCTDs and SLE
What else could cause an elevated ANA?
autoimmune disease, RA, scleroderma, RA , sjogren and polimelitis
How is ANA tested?
fluorescein stain - measuring the titers and pattern
Homogenous ANA means?
SLE and MCTDs
Speckled ANA means?
SLE, MCTDs, scleroderma, RA, Sjogren’s, poliomyelitis
Nucleolar ANA means?
poliomyelitis, scleroderma
periphery ANA means?
SLE
What is RA less sensitive for?
Early RA
What would be indicated with a high RF?
RA, autoimmune diseases (SLE and Hep C)
What markers are increased in inflammation?
CRP, ESR
Which marker is indicative of CREST syndrome?
Anticentromere antibody
What is anticentromere antibody sensitive for?
CREST syndrome but NOT scleroderma
is CRP or ESR more sensitive?
CRP
What is released with necrotic tissue? (it is bound to it)
CRP
What is CRP?
non specific indicator of inflammation
What is ESR an indicator of?
non specific indicator of inflammation
What is ESR a measure of?
the amount of time that it takes for the RBCs to settle into plasma or saline
what test is elevated in patients with antiphospholipid syndrome associated with thrombosis, thrombocytopenia, CVA, multiple miscarriages
anticardiolipin antibody
What diseases are associated with anticardiolipin antibody?
antiphospholipid syndrome and SLE
If a patient presents with Calcinosis, Raynauds, esophageal syndrome, sclerodactyly, telangiectasia, what test would you perform?
anticentromere antibody
What test can be performed to test for SLE but usually just performed to rule out renal involvement with SLE patients?
anti-nucleosome (anti- NCS)
if a patient’s anti double strand DNA is highly elevated what would that mean?
good chance of SLE
If a patient anti- double stranded (Anti-ds DNA) is slightly elevated what would you use to confirm lupus dx?
antinuceosome (anti-ncs)
