How does permethrin work and where does it act?
A
Example of an ion channel agonist, causing ion channels to open .
Acts on the nervous system

Why is permethrin a neurological toxin ?
A
- Bind to voltage gated Na+ channels
- Prolong Na+ channel activation (preventing inactivation and deactivation)
- Paralysis in animal function leading to death

Why does permethrin not affect humans
A
We do not have the amino acid sequence that is needed for the binding of permethrin.
Binds to methyanaine residues but we do not have this in humans
