How is it decided if a person is entitled to care and support form the local authority?

A

to decide if a person is entitled to care and support from the local authority, an assessor usually from social services will consider the needs of the client have arisen from:
- a physical or mental impairment or illness, PLUS
- an inability to achieve at least 2 of the following daily activities (called outcomes):
- prepare and eat food
- wash themselves / clothes
- manage toilet needs
- move around their home easily
- keep home safe and clean
- access work, training, volunteering or education
ETC.

When is an adult only entitled to support?

A

an adult is only entitled to support if they meet both criteria (have a physical or mental impairment or illness, PLUS an inability to achieve at least 2 daily activities) which is called national eligibility criteria and then the local authority has a duty to ensure that identified needs are met
