Q

procedure

A

laboratory experiment using 72 ppants who were selected from the applied psychology research subject paired using an independent groups design.
each group was shown a list of 10 words

after this the ppants completed 6 distractor tasks (which involved them hearing and recalling 8 digit sequences) and then recalled the order of the words. this was repeated 3 times then the ppants completed an interference task (recalling 3 digit sequences) before completing a surprise recall test

Q

findings

A

at first ppants found it harder to remember acoustically similar than acoustically dissimilar words
at the end ppants found it harder to remember semantically similar than semantically dissimilar words

conclusion

A

STM encodes information acoustically
LTM encodes information semantically

Q

eco validity

A

the experiment was conducted in a highly controlled artificial setting of a lab which was an unfamiliar environment for the ppants and not an everyday setting in which the ppants would work on memory and recall
T/F cannot be sure that memory and recall is naturally occurring and cannot be generalised to everyday memory and recall

Q

mundane realism

A

the ppants were asked to memorise and recall acoustically and semantically similar and dissimilar words, this is not an everyday activity for the ppants so tf the memory and recall findings are unrepresentative of everyday memory and recall and tf cannot be generalised to everyday memory and recall
