Banduras Social Learning Theory Flashcards
(10 cards)
What did bandura believe
That people learn by watch it the behaviour of others . E.g of children watch adults gaining pleasure from an activity or being punished for an activity they will either repeat or reject those behaviours
What do bandura suggest
That aggression can be learned for watching others behave in an aggressive manner
What did bandura do to prove his thesis
Conducted a series of experiments involving a bobo doll
What did the bobo doll experiment involve
Exposing children to tow diffrent adult models
What were the two types of adult models
An aggressive and non-aggressive model
What were the aggressive adult models seen doing
Kick, pummel and hit the doll with a mallet
What did the children do after wittnesing the aggressive adults
After wittnsing the adults behaviour children were placed in the room without a model and were observed to see if they would imitate the behaviour they witnessed
What did the bobo doll experiment show
That children exposed to the aggressive adults tended to copy such behaviour even finding new ways to Hirt the doll e.g using using toy gun to shoot it.
Whereas children who watched the non aggressive version demonstrated far less aggression towards the doll
What did this experiment show
That violence and aggression are produced by an arousal event or learned aggressive skill
How do the findings for the bobo doll experiment account for criminality
Criminal behaviour like others can be learned from observation. Some people learn criminal behaviour from those around them e.g family this is known as observational learning
