What does the catechumens oil symbolise?
The catechumens oil is used to anoint the baby before baptism, a date back to ancient Rome where oil was seen as assemble of strength. The oil symbolises the strength God provides for the baby against sin.

The oil of chrism is used to annoy to the baby after baptism. It dates back to the ancient kings who were especially chosen to serve God in baptism. The baby is anointed with the oil of

This symbol lies being closed in Jesus, the colour white symbolises pure innocence as the child begins a new life as a follower of Jesus

Welcome - The priest welcomes the parents and godparents, reminding them of their duties to encourage the child’s spiritual growth. The sign of the cross is made on the babies’s forehead as a symbol that they belong to God and the church.
