Basic concepts Flashcards
(12 cards)
Concept of homeostasis
Ability of the body to maintain relatively stable internal conditions
Concept of alostasis:
Active regulatory process that continuously assess physiological needs and adapts to them
Normal variables of HR, RR, Temp, BP
- HR: 60-100
- RR: 10-16
- Temp: 36.5
- BP: 120/80
What is the course of disease?
Progression of a disease in an individual over time in the absence of treatment
What are the stages of course disease?
- Susceptibility
- Subclinical disease
- Clinical disease
- Recovery, disability or death
Characteristics of stage of susceptibility:
- Before exposure
- Decreases immune system
- Factor that can produce the disease
Characteristics of stage of subclinical disease:
- Pathological changes
- Before we have the symptoms
- Changes in the system like inflammation, cell changes
Characteristics of stage of clinical disease:
Feel all the symptoms
What is the inflammation?
Systemic and local reaction of tissues and microcirculation to a pathogenic insult
5 key signs of inflammation:
- Heat
- Pain
- Redness
- Swelling
- Functio Laesa: temporary loss of function
Goals of the inflammation:
- Eliminate cause/ etiology
- Clearing out necrotic cells
- Tissue repair
When do we released DAMPS:
- Plasma membrane injured
- Cell dies
- Residues of the previous cells
