C - CIRCULATION must be maintained (check for 5-10 seconds)
- ADULT Casualty: check the CAROTID PULSE closer to you
- INFANT Casualty: check the BRACHIAL PULSE closer to you

A: AIRWAY should be OPEN (HEAD-TILT CHIN-LIFT MANEUVER;if there is a
suspected head injury, use the jaw thrust without head tilt maneuver)

B: BREATHING should be RESTORED (LOOK-LISTEN-FEEL SIMULTANEOUSLY for 10 seconds)

  1. INTERVIEW the victim: ask for NAME & “SAMPLE”
  2. Check VITAL SIGNS (simultaneously check for BREATHING & CIRCULATION)
  3. Conduct a head-to-toe survey: check for DCAPBTLS; Compare the left vs. the right side of the body

Emergency Action Steps

A
  1. Survey the scene (in 10 SECONDS, assess if it’s safe for you to help)
  2. Wear PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)
  3. INTRODUCE YOURSELF & Ask PERMISSION to care. (If UNCONSCIOUS: consent is IMPLIED; or you may ask for the consent of their guardian)
  4. If the casualty is NOT RESPONDING, check for conssciousness: tap the shoulders gently & ask “Hey, hey, hey, are you okay?” for 3 TIMES)
  5. CALL FOR HELP: provide (1) YOUR NAME, (2) EXACT LOCATION of the accident, (3) NATURE of the injury, (4) # of injured, (5) first aid given: first responder should be the LAST TO DROP the call
  6. Conduct a PRIMARY SURVEY of the victim
  7. Do a SECONDARY Survey of the victim
  8. If there is NO HEAD or SPIRAL INJURY, put in a RECOVERY POSITION
  9. Document observation & endorse to the doctor/health care provider once the medical team arrives

Rescue breathing/Artificial Respiration (Mouth-to-mouth)

A
  1. Open the airway using the head-tilt/chin-life maneuver (no head/neck injury)
  2. Pinch the person’s nose
  3. Create a seal with your lips around the person’s mouth
  4. Blow into the person’s mouth for one full second and watch for the chest to rise. Tilt the head further back if the chest does not rise.
  5. Give an additional breath for one second
  6. As soon as you see chest moevement, STOP the rescue breathing

COUNTING: blow 1, 1002, 1003,

  1. Place the palm of your hands OVER the CENTER of the imaginary nipple line
  2. Position your shoulders OVER your hands and lock your elbows STRAIGHT
  3. Compress the chest hard and fast (30
    times at a rate of 100-120 compressions per
    minute)

STOP if:
* the person regains consciousness and
breaths normally again
* you are exhausted and can’t continue
* medical team arrives and takes over

Heimlich Maneuver

A
  1. Stand behind the choking person and
    wrap your arms around his/her waist.
  2. Make a FIST and place it just ABOVE THE NAVEL below the RIBCAGE.
  3. GRASP UR FIST with the OTHER HAND with the other hand and
    perform QUICK, UPWARD THRUSTS into into the
    abdomen.
  4. Repeat until the object is expelled or the
    person can breathe again.
