Behavior Reduction Flashcards
(12 cards)
4 Functions of Behavior
Automatic/Sensory, Escape, Attention, Access/Tangible
What is Differential Reinforcement?
Reinforcing (SR+1) positive, alternative behaviors and putting maladaptive, problem behaviors on extinction
Differential Reinforcement of Alternative Behavior (DRA)
Deliver R when client engages in alternative behavior and places problem behavior on extinction “Do this instead”; Raising hand instead of calling out answers
Differential Reinforcement of Other Behavior (DRO)
Deliver R when client does not engage in targeted problem behavior at all for specific time interval “Don’t do this”; Every 10min that patient does not engage in hitting head behavior, provide praise and R
Differential Reinforcement of Incompatible Behavior (DRI)
Deliver R when client engages in behavior that is incompatible with target problem behavior and places said behavior on extinction “Do this so you can’t do that”; Patient responds to skills such as clap hands, pat floor, then receives R toy to squeeze
Differential Reinforcement of High-Rates of Behavior (DRH)
Deliver R when client engages in target behavior above a predetermined set criteria “Do this, only much more”; Child takes bites of lunch at a faster rate
Differential Reinforcement of Low-Rates of Behavior (DRL)
Deliver R when client engages in the targeted behavior less than or equal to predetermined limit “Do this, only not so much”; Child raises hand fewer times during class
MO
Environmental variable that alters the value of a reinforcer; These can increase or decrease motivation
Value Altering Effect: Establishing Operation (EO)
increases motivation for a stimulus; DEPRIVATION (so this MO increases desire)
Value Altering Effect: Abolishing Operation (AO)
Decreases motivation for a stimulus; SATIATED (so this MO decreases desire)
Behavior Altering Effect: Evocative Effect
Increases frequency of behavior: EVOKE (encourages more behavior)
Behavior Altering Effect: Abative Effect
Decreases frequency of behavior: ABATE (decreases behavior)
