Belmont Rapid Infuser Flashcards
(7 cards)
The Belmont Rapid Infuser RI-2 is a high-performance infusion device built for emergency or high-volume fluid administration scenarios.
It’s very useful during:
* Trauma resuscitation (massive transfusion)
* Major surgeries (cardiothoracic, orthopedic, transplant)
* Hypothermic patients
* Military medicine and field hospitals
Belmont Rapid Infuser
Core Capabilities
The Belmont’s core capabilities are:
* Delivering fluids and blood from 2.5 to 1000 mL/min
* Heats fluids to physiologic temperature
* Incorporates automated air detection, pressure control, and safety cutoffs.
Belmont Rapid Infuser
Engineering Overview
Key components:
* Roller Pump: Reliable, consistent fluid delivery
* IR Probes (Input/Output): Ensure correct temperature management
* Fluid Out & Air Detectors: Stop pump if out of fluid or air is detected
* Valve Wand: Switches flow path instantly to ensure patient safety
* Touch Display: Intuitive interface for setup and troubleshooting
* Battery Backup: Maintains pumping (no heating) for 30 minutes.

Warning and Contraindicated Uses
Contraindicated uses:
* Platelets, cryoprecipitate, granulocytes
* Drugs or unprocessed blood
* Any calcium or dextrose-based solutions mixed with blood
Warnings:
* Never reuse disposable sets
* Do not leave unattended during use
* Priming with blood is prohibited - use only compatible fluids
* Battery mode disables heating - suitable only for short-duration, low-flow use.
* High temperatures may damage RBCs - must be discarded if overheated
- Inspect components, secure unit (optional IV pole)
- Install the sterile, pre-assembled disposable set
- Use only compatible fluids (e.g., NS, anticoagulated blood)
Prime:
* Main system: 100 mL at 500 mL/min
* Patient line: 50-200 mL/min manually
Belmont Rapid Infuser
Infusion Operation
- Start infusion at 10 mL/min
- Adjust rate as needed (up to 1000 mL/min)
- Use bolus mode for fixed-volume infusions
- Automatic air purging after every 500 mL delivered
Belmont Rapid Infuser
Post-Use
- STOP pump, clamp lines, and dispose of single-use set
- Clean and disinfect system per infection control protocol
- Perform periodic operational and visual checks
