Benign lesions Flashcards
(21 cards)
Keloid- Eti
Abnormal healing- overgrowth of scar tissue beyond site. Genetic influence- african americans
Keloid- Sx
Pink to hyper/hypo pigmented lesions- common in earlobes and upper trunk. Extension of tentacles
Keloid- Tx
Triamcinalone injections- high recurrence, avoid all surgeries if possible
Dermatofibroma- Eti
Benign tumor of skin. Thought to occur due to trauma
Dermatofibroma- Sx
Firm, hyper pigmented dome shaped papule- peripheral ring of darkening, dimple when pinched
Dermatofibroma- Tx
Asymptomatic- does not require
Seborrheic keratoses- Eti
Arises 4th decade of life. Superficial epidermal growths
Seborrheic keratoses- Sx
Sharply marginated, pigmented lesions- texture and color vary. Stuck on quality.
Seborrheic keratoses- Dx
Dermoscopy- keratin pseudocyte. Scratching reveals superficial waxy character
Seborrheic keratoses- Tx
None- Curettage, cryo or electro to remove
Skin tag- Eti
Influenced by obesity, genetics and friction. More common in pregnancy- can be marker for insulin resistance
Skin tag- Sx
Skin to brown colored, peculated fleshy papules
Skin tag- Tx
Snipping, liquid nitrogen or electrodessication
Cherry angioma- Eti
Vascular proliferation developed in 4th decade. Common on trunk
Cherry angioma- Sx
Round to oval, bright red, dome shaped papule- up to several mm in diameter
Keratoacanthoma- Eti
More frequent in light skin, men. UV light exposure. Pseudocancer
Keratoacanthoma- Sx
Sun exposed surfaces. Solitary lesion growing rapidly for weeks then involuting over time. Symmetric, firm with crateriform keratotic core
Keratoacanthoma- Tx
Incision biopsy, radiotherapy or chemotherapy to RO SCC
Pyogenic granuloma- Eti
Vascular lesion following minor trauma- abnormal healing response
Pyogenic granuloma- Sx
Smooth bright to dusky red lesion with collar of epidermis at base. Bleeds easily and spontaneously
Pyogenic granuloma- Tx
Surgical excision or curattage
