Between Subjects ANOVA Flashcards
(13 cards)
Between Subjects ANOVA
-One factor with three or more levels
-Each group has different people
Assumptions of a Between Subjects ANOVA
Formal:
-Homogeneity of Variance
-Normality
– Assumes the error is normally distributed
-Independence
–Assumes that observations/errors are independent of each other
Informal:
-No outliers
-Sample size is equal across groups
Mean Square Between
Average amount of variation between the group means
Mean Square Error
Average amount of variation within each sample
MSb / MSe = ?
F Value
Why is it called F-value
Named after Sir Ronald Fisher
Sum of Squares Between Subjects
Variability between group means and the grand mean
Sum of Squares Error
Differences between the individual scores and their respective group means
Between Subjects ANOVA Null Hypothesis
All group means are the same
What does it mean to reject the null?
At least one group differs from the other
Effect Sizes: Generalized Eta Squared
Percentage of variance in the dependent variable that is due to the independent variable
Problem: Always overestimates variance
Effect Sizes: Omega Square
Better and more accurate
-Ex: Omega squared of .72 means that 72% of the variance in the dependent variable was due to the independent variable
Plots you can use
-Boxplot
-Estimated Marginal Means Plot
