Factorial ANOVA Flashcards
(15 cards)
Factorial ANOVA
More than one factor being compared
Ex: How time of day and study methods after test scores
Ex: 2 x 3 Factorial Design
2 factors
-One with 2 levels
-One with 3 levels
Between Subjects Factorial ANOVA
All factors are between subjects
Within Subjects Factorial ANOVA
All factors are within subjects
Mixed Factorial ANOVA
Some factors are between and some are within
What does collapsing across a factor mean?
Ignoring that factor
What is the interpretation for a main effect?
(Effect of variable you want) on (Outcome) collapsing across (Other Variables)
What is an interaction?
When one variables effect on the dependent variable is conditional on another variable.
Ex: The effect of detergent changes based on water temp.
Lower order effects
In an interaction, the main effect is called a lower order effect because you can’t interpret the main effect alone because it depends on another factor
Sum of Squares Main Effect 1
Variability caused by the first factor
Sum of Squares Main Effect 2
Variability caused by the second factor
Sum of Squares Interaction
Whether the effect of Factor A depends on Factor B
Sum of Squares Error
Whatever variation is left over
SS Total
Add everything together
Plot Language
If the lines are parallel = No Interaction
If lines are cross or diverge = Interaction
Main Effect = Plot shows one group as always more than another
