What is biofeedback
A
. Involves training client to control involuntary physiological process
. Therapy makes these processes visible to client through use of tech such as heart monitors, electromygrams, skin conductance response

- Client learns to become aware of physiological responses and how they can be adjusted
- Client learns techniques to control physiological responses
- Client learns to use techniques in their everyday life

A
Sessions are usually an hour long, people start to see positive results after 10 sessions - some may need many more

A
. Biofeedback is expensive as 1-1 therapy and requires specialised equipment
. Greenhalgh = meta analysis of 36 studies with total sample of 1660 patients who used biofeedback as treatment for hypertension
^ concluded no evidence biofeedback is effective in reducing negative effects of stress
