biological approach Flashcards
(5 cards)
biological approach assumption
everything psychological comes first from biological
behaviour as neurochemical basis
neurotransmitters transmit messages through synaptic transmission
diff levels of neurotransmitters affects our behaviour
eg low levels serotonin= anxiety
high levels dopamine = ocd
genetic basis of behaviour
mz twins share 100% genes
dz twins share 50% genes
twins can be used to determine if trait or behaviour is due to genes
if mz twins higher concordance rate than dz twins (likelihood of sharing same trait) than that means it’s due to genes
eg aggression is genetic bc mz twins show higher concordance rate on this (more of them share this trait)
genotype and phenotype
genotype = genetic makeup eg dominant and recessive
phenotype = how it is expressed eg brown hair
- this can be affected by environment eg dye hair to blonde
evolution and behaviour
darwin = natural selection
genetic behaviour that helps with survival will be passed on to future generations
- gives possessor and their offspring advantages
eg attachment behaviour in babies (w their parents) means they are more likely to survive
