self congruence
concept of self = ideal self == congruence
if gap between two is too big then == incongruent
if incongruent cannot achieve self actualisation (due to negative feelings of self worth)
conditions of worth
issues in adulthood stem from childhood experiences
if parents lack unconditional positive regard = creates psychological problems for child in future
this is why therapists always have to show unconditional positive regard that wasn’t shown in childhood
influence on counselling psychology
psychological problems are due to conditions of worth and lack of unconditional positive regard
counselling can help this by giving therapists that act as a guide and help reach self actualisation by providing unconditional positive regard
