Biological Approach Flashcards

1
Q

Strengths

A

Very scientific and objective and often uses lab experiments , cause and effect
Lab experiments high levels of control and scientific equipment reliable - Maguire MRI scans looked at structure of brain able to come to conclusion
Supports nature side and psychology of a science

Q

Weaknesses

A

Very reductionist as approach simplifies complex human behaviour to one factor - brunners study into family urine sample found deficit of an enzyme which caused rare disorder however did not loom at environment or upbringing
Deterministic due to biology
Low in ecological validity as situation and task is too controlled therefore difficult to generalise findings. Also could be demand characteristics - Sperry looks at the brains of split brain patients , makes them look at things with one eye covered which is not ecologically valid however he wanted to simplify it to find out the roles of each hemisphere
