Q

Strengths

A

Lab experiments high levels of control - loftus weapon focus (gun) (cheque) are the IV and DV measures by questionnaire and by eye fixation data so cause and effect can be established
Great application to real life, research has had big influence on everyday life - fisher cognitive interview elicits much more info than normal techniques
Very effective as therapy supporting the assumption that people’s problems are due to irrational thinking that can be remedied - Meichenbaums stres inoculation therapy to change thinking patterns to overcome stress and to tackle the situation

Q

Weaknesses

A

As laboratory experiments are often used research is often low in ecological validity - dement and klietman research into REM sleep mad brain activity on dream content woken up by doorbell
Low in validity participants may guess aim and respond to demand characteristics not be sure what we are measuring - lotus and palmer could of guesses aim and changed their speed estimate to suit verb
Reductionist and deterministic simples to thoughts also assumes a persons problems can be solved by changing the way a person thinks and be much deeper
