Blood Flashcards
(8 cards)
Rh blood group system
system for classifying blood group according to the absence or presence of the rh antigen, or rh factor, on the cell membranes of the red blood cells
Agglugation
clumping of particles. the visible expression of the aggregation of antigens and antibodies.
Antigen
normally a foreign molecule which evokes immune response in the body
Antibody
a protein produced by the body to fight diseases by recognizing specific antigens
ABO blood group system
characterized by two glycolipid antigens, called A and B - depending on where the RBCs have none, only one or both antigens. Blood groups are distinguished as type O, type A, type B or type AB.
Method to identify blood types of the ABO and the Rh blood group system
1) drops of different antisera (anti-A, anti-B, anti A & anti-B and anti-D (for rh) and blood. 2) mixed with small amount of blood. 3) agglugation with antisera indicated the presence of that antigen on the RBC.
Normal pre-meal plasma level
3.6-5.8 mmol/l
Two complications related to blood glucose level
Hypoglycemic (low blood glucose level) & hyperglycemic (high blood glucose level. People produce insulin, but it doesnt work properly).
