Human perception Flashcards
(13 cards)
Sensory pathways
neural pathways leading from the receptor to the cortical primary sensory area
Sensory range
the range between the threshold value and the maximal stimulus
Sensory organs
the status and changes of inner and outer environments are detected by receptor cells, which in several cases, are grouped in sensory organs
Perception
recognition and interpretation of the sensations
Stimulus modality
A system that consists of a group of sensory cell types, responding to a specific physical phenomenon, and corresponding to a particular group of regions within the brain where the signals are received and interpreted.
Snellen chart
a chart with letters starting from big to smaller. 5m distance. Read aloud the letters from above and downwards with one eye.
Shilling-Ishihara table
most well-known colorblind test. Each of them showing either a number or a path.
Perimeter
used to determine the field of vision. Examine whether there is a difference in size between the black-and-white and coloured fields of vision.
Placido disc
To check the surface of the cornea. Light source through the eyes so you can see the reflection of the rings on the cornea.
Audiometry
Testing degree of hearing by different range of frequencies at varying degree of loudness. The subject is required to indicate where he/she can hear a certain sound by pushing the space button on the keyboard.
Rinne-test
Use a tuning fork to see whether the patient hears the sound best by bone conduction or air conduction. In normal hearing tones are louder by air conduction.
Myopia
short sightedness
Hypoermetropia
long sightedness
