Q

How to measure blood pressure

A
  1. Explain and gain consent
  2. Apply cuff
  3. Palpate radial or brachial pulse
  4. Inflate cuff till pulse disappears = estimated systolic pressure
  5. Deflate cuff fully, then reflate till 20-30mmHg above estimated pressure
  6. Place diaphragm of stethoscope over brachial pulse then deflate cuff 2mmHg/second listening to first sounds = systolic pressure
  7. Deflate slowly till sounds disappear = diastolic pressure
