How to measure blood pressure
A
- Explain and gain consent
- Apply cuff
- Palpate radial or brachial pulse
- Inflate cuff till pulse disappears = estimated systolic pressure
- Deflate cuff fully, then reflate till 20-30mmHg above estimated pressure
- Place diaphragm of stethoscope over brachial pulse then deflate cuff 2mmHg/second listening to first sounds = systolic pressure
- Deflate slowly till sounds disappear = diastolic pressure
