What is NEWS2
A track and trigger system to monitor a patients condition
What does NEWS stand for
National early warning sign
What does a higher news score indicate
A larger degree of variation from the norm - more concern
What does a rising news score mean
Deterioration in the clinical condition of the patient
What is the difference between scale 1 and 2 on the NEWS2 chart
Scale 1: patients with normal respiratory function
2: only used under direction when advised by a qualified clinician - patients who are at risk of hypercapnia - too high levels of co2 in blood - COPD, chest wall deformities
How is news2 calculated
On total scores based on observations - numerical values must be input into NEWS2 chart
What does news 2 score tell us
Indication of frequency of monitoring and clinical response - minimum response
