Content analysis- CODING FOR CATEGORIES
content analysis is used to quantify qualitative data (words to numerical form)
Thematic analysis- IDENTIFYING CODES
A method to identifying analysing and reporting patterns within data
Strength and weakness for content analysis
useful for gathering data from a wide range of ideas
time consuming

Humanistic approach
Looking at a whole individual concept such as freewill and self actualisation
Free will
People are responsible for their own actions, everyone has it
Self actualisation
The process of reaching one’s fullest potential by pursuing personal growth creativity, and self fulfilment

Basic survival- includes both physiological and safety needs

Food, water, and rest

When your ideal self and self image are similar

when your self image/ real self doesn’t align with your ideal self
Unconditional positive regard
The basic acceptance and support other person, regardless of what they say or do
why do humanists reject the scientific approach?
Because they think that human should be viewed as a whole and not reduced to component parts
Person centred therapy
Person centred therapy focuses on creating an environment where clients feel heard and valued
Define the concepts in person centred therapy
empathy, unconditional positive regard, genuineness
How does person centred therapy support growth?
Aims to induce congruence and close the gap between the selves by either developing a more positive self-concept or more realistic ideal self
Strength of the humanistic approach
hollistic (detailed)- provides a more valid explanation of behaviour
Weaknesses of the humanistic approach
Not generalisable because it’s only looking at the individual and you can’t compare it to anyone else
