Brachial Plexus Flashcards
(122 cards)
What is the brachial plexus formed by?
anterior primary rami of C5-T1, and occasionally some of C4 and/or T2
What does the brachial plexus supply?
Upper extremities
Where does the Brachial Plexus travel?
over the first rib into the axilla
Directionally how does the brachial plexus travel?
medial to lateral
What are the subdivisions of the plexus in order?
roots, trunks, divisions, cords, and terminal nerves
What does each root receive from the sympathetic trunk?
Gray Ramus Communicans
What do the roots pass between before reaching into the posterior triangle?
Anterior and Middle scalene muscles
Where are the roots located?
Posterior and superior to the subclavian artery
What roots form the superior trunk?
C5&C6
What roots combine to form the middle trunk?
C7 only
What roots combine to form the inferior trunk?
C8&T1
What do trunks pass over before reaching the axilla?
Rib 1
What does each trunk split into?
Anterior and posterior divisions
What does the anterior division supply?
Anterior compartments of the arm and forearm
What does the posterior division supply?
Posterior compartments of the arm and forearm
What are the cords of the brachial plexus named in relation to?
axillary artery
The anterior divisions of the superior and middle trunks forms what?
lateral cord
lateral cord contains fibers from what?
C5, C6, C7
Where does the lateral cord lay to the 2nd part of the axillary artery?
lateral
What cord is formed by the anterior division of the inferior trunk?
medial cord
Where does the medial cord lie to the 2nd part of the axillary artery?
Medial
What does the medial cord contain fibers from?
C8 & T1
What is formed by the union of the posterior division of all 3 trunks?
Posterior cord
Posterior cord contains fibers from where?
C5, C6, C7, C8, and T1
