1
Q

neuroplasticity

A

refers to the brain’s ability to rearrange the connections between its neurons, resulting in structural changes as a result of learning and experiences.

2
Q

neural networks

A

a group of neurons interconnected by synapses to carry out specific functions (when activated), they develop by making and breaking synaptic connections between neurons.

Q

neural pruning

A

the removal of synaptic connections by the brain between neurons because they are not used/understimulated

Q

dendritic branching

A

the process in which dendrites grow and form new connections with other neurons. this happens every time we learn something new

Q

long term potentiation

A

the strengthening of synaptic connections in response to repeated use of neurons (and thereby enhances communication)

Q

link to dragasnki et al’s study (in reference to terminology)

A

the study demonstrated that the act of practicing juggling led to long term potentiation and dendritic branching, illustrating how neuroplasticity allows the brain to adapt itself in response to learning new skills and experiences. Additionally, when the participants ceased practicing, a decrease in grey matter was observed, highlighting the brain’s ability to prune connections that are no longer needed, further reinforcing the theory of neuroplasticity.
