Stage 1- describe the random allocation phase?
A
- Ppts were asked to complete both questionnaires at the start of the programme and after the programme.
- Ppts divided into 3 groups (control, relaxation, relaxation + imagery)

stage 2 -Describe the procedure for the experimental groups
A
- (Relaxation group)- given instructions on how to direct sensory focus onto specific muscle groups.
- (Relaxation + imagery)- also given instructions on how to visualise a peaceful scene to enhace relaxation.

stage 3- all ppts recieved a 15 min tape recording
A
- All ppts received a daily 15 minute tape which repeated the instructions that they had been given.
- All ppts also were also seen by a researcher for 30 mins per week (for the whole course), the control group where encouraged to discuss themselves and interests whilst the treatment groups would practice their exercises.

A
- 65 item questionnaire.
- Which gave scores across 6 dimentions (tension, depression, anger, fatigue).
- Provides a total mood disturbance score.

Describe the Leeds General scale
A
- 6 item questionnaire
- Assesses anxiety and depression for those not formally diagnosed with MH disorders.
- Anxiety and depression rated on a 4 point scale.
