Stage 1- describe the random allocation phase?

A
  • Ppts were asked to complete both questionnaires at the start of the programme and after the programme.
  • Ppts divided into 3 groups (control, relaxation, relaxation + imagery)

stage 2 -Describe the procedure for the experimental groups

A
  • (Relaxation group)- given instructions on how to direct sensory focus onto specific muscle groups.
  • (Relaxation + imagery)- also given instructions on how to visualise a peaceful scene to enhace relaxation.

stage 3- all ppts recieved a 15 min tape recording

  • All ppts received a daily 15 minute tape which repeated the instructions that they had been given.
  • All ppts also were also seen by a researcher for 30 mins per week (for the whole course), the control group where encouraged to discuss themselves and interests whilst the treatment groups would practice their exercises.
