what is democracy
political system based upon the concept of people having the power to decide through an open and fair electoral system, where electors can choose from competing political parties and groups
What is individual liberty
freedom to make their own choices and decisions
what is the rule of law
law applies equally to everyone
what is tolerance
show understanding of others with differing views or opinions
when are there often debates surrounding citizens rights and responsibilities
during war (increased duties to fight and ration)
pandemics (limit freedom of movement)
what are the 4 British values
- tolerance

what are rights
legal, social and ethical entitlements
structure gov operations, content of laws, morality of society etc, making them the building block of society
can be limited when conflicted with other rights (freedom of speech, right to not be discriminated against)
citizens should enjoy them equally
what are responsibilities
duties placed upon citizens by a society eg pay taxes, obey laws, jury duty
not optional, often enshrined in law
what are freedoms
a power or right to speak and act or think as one wants eg freedom of expression, speech, movement, the press
what is equality
equal treatment for all within society eg equality act 2010 or equal pay act 1970
what are morals
rules that govern which actions are considered right or wrong

what is immigration

what are migrants
people who move from one place to another, whether within their own country (internal migration) or across borders (international migration)
what are immigrants
People who have entered a country to live there permanently or for a long period.
