This is the place where Buddha attained enlightenment
What is the middle way?
A basic Buddhist teaching that rejects the pleasures of sensual indulgence and the self-denial of asceticism, focusing instead on a practical approach to spiritual attainment.
It rejects the indulgence that the body craves but does not reject the body itself.
What is nirvana?
The ultimate goal of Buddhists, the extinction of desire and any sense of individual selfhood, resulting in liberation from samsara and its limiting conditions.
Sangha
The Buddhist community of monks and nuns; one of the three Jewels of Buddhism

The teachings of the Buddha, and one of the three jewels of Buddhism

It is a shrine that is built on the place where the Buddha preached his first sermon at Deer Park
What is Pali
An ancient language of india, similar to sanskirt but more commonly understood and used in the writing of the earliest Buddhist texts most important for Theravada Buddhism

Anatta

What is Anatta?
One of the three marks of existance the Buddhist doctrine denying a permanent self
An example is: Where were you 10 years ago? A buddha would say they did not exist. You can change from literally a moment to another moment,
Anicca is what
One of the three marks of existance, the Buddhist doctrine that all existent things are constantly changing.
Example is: A river is always flowing. A river is a dynamic process not a static entity. Something can happen to distrub the flow.
Dukka is what
Third mark, translated to suffering is apart of human condition.
What are the 5 precepts?
- Do not take life
- Do not take what is not given
- Do not engage in sensuous misconduct
- Do not use false speech
- Do not drink intoxicants

- Do not watch dancing or shows
- Do not use garlands, perfumes, or ornaments

- To live is to experience suffering (Dukkha)
- Suffering is caused by desire (Tanha)
- Suffering can be brought to and end
- The solution to suffering is the Noble Eightfold path
