Q

How does phytomining work?

A
  • plants that can absorb copper ions are grown on low grade copper ore
  • plants are burnt and copper is extracted from the ash
  • copper irons are dissolved from the ash by adding sulfuric acid
  • you can then get pure copper from displacement by scrap iron then electrolysis

Q

How does bleaching work?

A

-bacteria feed on low grade metal ores
- by a combination of chemical and biological processes, leachate can be obtained from waste copper or by displacement with scrap iron, then electrolysis

Q

How is a life cycle assessment carried out?

A
  • listing all the material inputs and outputs into the environment
  • evaluating potential environmental impacts from inputs and outputs.
  • interpreting results to help make decisions about using one material, process, product or service over another
