C6+ Year 9 Flashcards
(16 cards)
How did oceans form?
When water vapour from volcanoes condensed.
What are the four gases in the current atmospheres?
Nitrogen, Argon, Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide.
What is the current percantage of Nitrogen in the atmosphere?
78%
What is the current percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere?
21%
What is the current percentage of Argon?
0.9%
What is the current percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?
0.04%
How did the amount of oxygen change over the years?
It increased due to the releasage of oxygen from photosynthesis of plants.
How did the amount of nitrogen change over the years?
Increased due to it being emitted by volcanoes.
How did the amount of carbon dioxide levels change over the years?
It decreased due ti it being dissolved by oceans, forming carbonate rocks and being absorbed for photosynthesis of plants.
What are the three greenhouse gases?
Methane, water vapour and carbon dioxide.
What do greenhouse gases maintain?
They maintain the Earth’s temperature for survival.
How is Methane produced?
Cattle farming, rice farming, swamps and landfill.
How is carbon dioxide produced?
Deforestation and burning fossil fuels.
What can climate change cause?
Flooding, sea levels rising, extinction, droughts, ice cals melting, wild fires and extreme weather.
Can climate change be reversed?
No but it can be prevented if we don’t release GHG’s into the atmosphere which cause climate change.
What is climate change?
Significant changes in the Earth’s temperature.
