Calcifications Flashcards
(4 cards)
Most common calcific masses?
calcified mesenteric lymph nodes (granuloma) (tuberculosis is thought to be a common
Leiomyoma is most frequent cause of mass calcification in the female pelvis
Intimal vascular calcification?
The calcifications are patchy, focal irregular and rough
Intimal calcification results form deposits of calcium in arteriosclerotic plaques. Its presence indicates significant arterial disease and suggests the likelihood of vascular narrowing, especially in medium and small arteries
Media vascular calcification?
The calcifications are smooth and continuous, without focal irregularities or disruptions
found entirely within the tunica media of the arteries, sparing both intimal and external elastic membranes
Psammomatous calcifications?
cloudlike agglomeration without internal lucency or distinct borders
Seen exclusively in ovarian serous Cystadenocarcinoma and metastatic deposits from this to the liver and retroperitoneal lymph nodes
