Encircling folds in small intestine?
Valvulae conniventes, aka Kerkring’s folds, plicae circulares
Colon haustra devided by what structre?
Plica semilunaris
Air in appendix?
Can be normal, typically abnormal indicating appendicitis.
What are the fixed points of reference in the abdomen?
gastric fundus, ligament of treitz, the hepatic and splenic flexures and the rectum.
Infant gas patterns?
After birth air will appear in stomach and work it way through entire GI tract
It is normal to see lots of air in small intestine
6 to 12 months the pattern will slowly change to that seen in adults
Gas patterns in feeble and premature infants may be delayed in appearance
tenia coli?
three longitudinal muscles that extend from the cecum to the rectum (omentum, mesenteric, free)
