14
Q

How is the mechanical ventilation breath- spontaneous type?

A

Ventilation is initiated, controlled and ended by the pt but the volume and pressure of the breath delivery by the ventilator is based on pt demand.

15
Q

How does the Continuous Mandatory ventilation works?

A

Tidal volume and present resp rate delivery by the ventilator.
Ventilator provides TOTAL support. Pt has no control

16
Q

How does the Assist Control ventilation works?

A

Tidal volume and minimum number of mandatory breaths per min delivery by the ventilator. It will deliver a minimum min ventilation.

Pt is able to initiate inspiration but still receive preset tidal volume.

If the pt does not initiate a breath within a specific time period, the ventilator will deliver a breath to maintain the resp rate

17
Q

How does the Synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation works?

A

Preset mandatory tidal volume and resp rate delivery by ventilator.

Pt is able to breath spontaneously between ventilator breaths

Spontaneous patient -initiated breaths are synchronized w ventilador breaths.

18
Q

How does the CPAP-Continous positive airway pressure works?

A

Pt spontaneous breaths are augmented w a predetermined level of positive pressure delivery throughout the entire resp cycle

19
Q

What is PEEP?

A

Positive end expiratory pressure

A positive pressure is applied to the lung at the end of the expiratory phase of ventilation.

Helps keep alveoli open during exp

20
Q

How does the weaning of mechanical ventilation works?

A

A spontaneous breathing trial while being closely monitored .
Doctor/nurse/RT make the call to weaning pt off the ventilator

21
Q

How many METS are allowed on Phase 1 of cardiac rehab?

A

Up to 4METS
