6
Q

what is the role of haemoglobin

A

it is a protein in the red blood cells that binds to oxygen in the lungs and carries it to tissues, than carries carbon dioxide back to the lungs to be exhaled

7
Q

what is the pathway of blood flow

A
  • oxygen poor blood enters the right atrium of the heart, moves to the right ventricle, then is pumped to the lungs via the pulmonary artery for oxygen.
-oxygen rich blood returns from the lungs to the left atrium, flows into the left ventricle, and is then pumped to the body via the aorta.

11
Q

explain the relationship between heart rate, stroke volume and cardiac output.

A

These all work together to meet the body’s oxygen needs during physical activity.

14
Q

physiological responses to hypothermia

A

(too cold) shivering, blood vessels constrict to preserve heat, and metabolic rate increases to generate warmth lower then 35 degrees

15
Q

the physiological response to hyperthermia

A

when the body gains more heat than 37.5 degrees
sweating, blood vessels dilate to release heat, and increased circulation to the skin to cool the body

16
Q

define vasoconstriction during exercise

A

the blood vessels narrow to redirect blood to vital organs

17
Q

define vasodilation in exercise

A

blood vessels widen to increases blood flow to muscles during exercise, helping deliver more oxygen and nutrients
