What is anaemia
NICE (2024) defines it as a condition where the number, size or haemoglobin content of red blood cells is decreased. WHO 2023 quantifies it as less than110g/L in in the 1st trimester , less than 105 in the 2nd and 3rd trimester and less than 100g/L postpartum of hb concentration (UHL, 2023)
When is anaemia treated
When it is accompanied by depleted iron stores plus signs of compromised supply of iron to the tissues
