According to this, Belfast has 50 out of 100 worst areas in NI, with the vast majority of these areas being in inner city areas. For example the Shankill and Falls in West Belfast

Inner city areas have been stuck in a CYCLE OF POVERTY with poor EDUCATION attainment, leading to a lack of skills, low wages, poor quality of housing and ill health caused by the decline of the inner city

Economic deprivation is the suffering of communities LIVING IN areas of urban decay and poor environmental quality

UNEMPLOYMENT rate in NI is 5.9%, which increases to 7.4% in Belfast and a further increase in Belfast inner city areas like the Shankill has 13.5% unemployment

FREE SCHOOL MEALS in 2012-2013, 40% secondary school students received free school meals whereas 7.4% Grammar schools
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE in west Belfast 2013, the Falls recorded 8.8% absenteeism and the Shankill 11.2%
QUALIFICATIONS 32% of people working in North Belfasts waterworks have no qualifications and these people are stuck in a cycle of poverty which is likely to pass onto their kids

The movement of people and businesses BACK INTO the inner city areas that have been suffering from deterioration and decline
