Benefits and drawbacks to tourism in receiving areas

A

Chosen area: Nha Trang
- Increase in job opportunities for the local residents such as in Hon Mun island, 14 Km away from the city centre of Nha Trang, on the south east of the city => lots of jobs such as dive instructors, marine biologists, supporting roles in restaurant, hotels => increase in income to locals, reducing dependency ratio, less pressure to the economically active
- Increase in foreign exchange rate, as famous beaches like Nha Trang attracts lots of customers from other countries like China, Korea and Western countries => the country can gain a rate of interest while foreigners exchange their currency to VND to use in Vietnam => increase income to the economy
- Increase in traffic congestion and air pollution; lots of tourists arrive => high demand for transport links leading to traffic in peak hours => people are late to work, reducing business’s efficiency and organisation => less output produced => negatively influenced the local economy; air pollution => lowers QOL for locals

How ecotourism managing economic activity

A

Choosing place: Triem Tay
Located along the Thu Bon River, in Quang Nam province, Central Vietnam
- Trained in English & skills important to community tourism development and waste management by Unesco
=> bring more tourists to community => buy handicrafts from locals; respecting local cultures => provides more money for families & keep young people to be educated
- Reed and co rui can survive flooding and soil erosion, used to make eco-friendly three-layer dyke => keeps water un the area & ensures fields are lush => attract tourists for the view & locals can interact with tourists as tour guide to their village through training by Unesco
- UNESCO trained local residents in skills instrumentally to community tourism development & waste management over past two years
=> not only help to make experience good for tourist => more will come; also ensures village water supply remain unpolluted and pristine
=> remains as an ideal place for ecotourism instead of like other places for mass tourism
