Quote suggesting God is Omnipotent and explain
- “God saw everything that he made, and indeed, it was very good” - Genesis 1:31
- God has the power to do whatever he wants; he can even create things from nothing
- He is so powerful he can make anything exactly the way he wants it
- Belief in God’s omnipotence inspires Christians to trust in God, as they know he has the power to do or change anything
Quote suggesting God is Transcendent and explain
- “Then God said, ‘let there be light’; and there was light” - Genesis 1:3
- God only needs his own word in order to create; when he says ‘let there be..’ that thing immediately comes into being. God is completely above and beyond the create world
- Christians believe God cannot be fully described in human words, or fully understood by human minds
Suggest how God is Creator?
- God is the only creator who has created anything, this is significant for Christians as it means they should worship only this one god
- All of creation is special, because all of it has been created by God. Therefore it should be cared for and looked after
- Genesis 1:27 shows that God created humans in his image, meaning humans share qualities with God. These qualities allow a close relationship with God

The Gospels cover the actions and teachings of Jesus. They are written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
What are the Epistles?
The Epistles are letters that were written by the apostles and discuss how to follow Jesus’ teachings in everyday life
Explain Imago dei
- Image of God
- Genesis 2:8 explains how God made humans in his image
- God created Adam by breathing life into him and the Hebrew word for ‘breath’ is spirit - showing how humans share the spirit of God
- This gives humans some of God’s qualities, such as love and compassion.
Explain Dignity
- Genesis 1 states God made humans “in his image”, meaning all humans are equal because we have all been created by God and share qualities of God
- For Catholics this means that all people have dignity - they are worthy of honour and respect
- Catholics believe that everyone should respect their own dignity and the dignity of other people
Explain the Sanctity of Life
- In Genesis 1, God blesses humans after he creates them. Catholics believe that all creation is holy because it has been created and blessed by God
- For Catholics, belief in the sanctity of life means that every stage of life should be treated with care and respect
Explain Free Will
- Humans have the gift of Free Will - meaning they are able to make choices for themselves
- God commands Adam not to eat from the tree but does not actively prevent him doing so, giving him free will
- Using free will in away that pleases God brings humans closer to God
Explain Stewardship
- In Genesis 1:28, God tells Adam and Eve to “subdue” the earth and “have dominion” over every living thing. This suggests that humans have been given power and authority to rule over all other creatures
- In Genesis 2:15, God puts Adam in the Garden of Eden to “till it and keep it” - this suggests looking after the world with care and love
- This teaches Christians they have a duty to look after the environment of behalf of God
- Christians believe that the world is a gift from God, but God expects them to protect and care for the world in return
What is Natural Law?
Natural Law is the idea that humans are born with an understanding of what is right and what is wrong
What are the 2 basic natural laws?
- “Do good and avoid evil”
- “Protect and preserve life”
What are the links with Natural Law and human beliefs?
- That humans are made in the image of God, therefore they share God’s Goodness
- God made all creation good
Why should Catholics live according to Natural Law?
- Because it is part of God’s will for humans. God built humans with an in-built moral code, so humans should follow it
- Humans should not need rules to tell them what is right and wrong. They should know this intuitively
Why shouldn’t Catholics live according to Natural Law?
- Humans should now follow legal law rather than relying on natural law
- Natural law is not relevant in modern society as people are taught by society what is right and wrong that than relying on natural instinct
