A

In 1857 The united states supreme court made a decision. It was called the dred scott decision, and dealt with slavery. this case sparked division in the country and fueled the civil war. The case dred scott V sandford went up to the supreme court and the chief delivered the majority option. The court ruled against dred scott saying that just because he lived in a free state did not make him free since he was african american and was technically not considered a citizen because of his race. overall after this decision the compromise of 1820 was deemed unconstitutional.
