Fuse three: Alliances

A

in 1914 Europe was divided into 2 alliances, which were the triple alliance (Germany, Italy, Austria-Hungary) and the triple entente (France, Britain, Russia) . Countries formed alliances because it showed rivals that they had power and allies would help sort out any problems between countries. This lead to a rise in tension because the 2 alliances became suspicious of each other due to more quarrels over colonies.
