scared of H n knew if H invaded B+F would follow policy of Appeasement -> would have to create ‘friendship’ w/ H to make less suspicious

delay war-> USSR more time to rearm

previuosly been ignored by powerful countries regards to Munich-> wanted to demonstrate his power

stood alone against the growing fascist threat-> non agression Pact= guarantee’s some form of security
