Q

Tell me how you would explain the Principal Objective to a new partner when you first meet him/her

A

Everything we do is checked against the Principal Objective, we must be able to say ‘yes’ to it being right for our partners, shareholders, and Cintas. If it doesn’t make sense for all three, then we need to ask ourselves why are we doing this.

Q

Define “Spartan attitude.” Can you give me an example of when you utilized this characteristic at your location?

A

We manage the expenses of the business as if they were our own.- When working in the office an invoice came through for AP from our tuck repair vendor. We were calling them out to add oil and top off washer fluid and they were charging us for an onsite visit, fluid when this all could have been addressed during the truck PM or all trucks at once instead calling them out on muiltiple days and being charged.

Q

Our policy and procedure system of management is the third element of Cintas’ culture. List the purposes of policies and procedures. What are the advantages?

Provides management with control-without a management system we lose control and set ourselves up for problems. Provides consistency- allows assurance that all Cintas operations are running the same. Gives us competitive advantage- management systems convert mundane details into solid, customer beliefs. Invaluable training tool- outlines the best method for handling situations. Vital to communications within the company- provides common dialog. Advantage and flexibility of moving management resources- we promote from wihtin and move place to place, we maintain continuity and don’t waste time learning new systems and languages.
