What are the three elements of Corporate Culture at Cintas?
Our Principal Objective, Our Corporate Character, Our Management System
What is the Principal Objective?
We will exceed our customers expectations to maximize the long-term value of Cintas for its shareholders and working partners.
Tell me how you would explain the Principal Objective to a new partner when you first meet him/her
Everything we do is checked against the Principal Objective, we must be able to say ‘yes’ to it being right for our partners, shareholders, and Cintas. If it doesn’t make sense for all three, then we need to ask ourselves why are we doing this.
What do we mean by “Corporate Character?” Name at least five components.
We are Professional, We live by the rules, We act with a sense of urgency, We have positive discontent,
How would you define Professionalism in the production environment?
??
Define “Spartan attitude.” Can you give me an example of when you utilized this characteristic at your location?
We manage the expenses of the business as if they were our own.- When working in the office an invoice came through for AP from our tuck repair vendor. We were calling them out to add oil and top off washer fluid and they were charging us for an onsite visit, fluid when this all could have been addressed during the truck PM or all trucks at once instead calling them out on muiltiple days and being charged.
Define “competitive urgency.” Can you give me an example of when you utilized this characteristic at your location?
To attend to every detail of our business, no matter how small, as though if overlooked would result in the loss of the partner or customer.-
Define “positive discontent.” Can you give me an example of when you utilized this characteristic at your location?
Never satisfied with ‘good enough’ and constantly looking for ways to improve.-
Our policy and procedure system of management is the third element of Cintas’ culture. List the purposes of policies and procedures. What are the advantages?
Provides management with control-without a management system we lose control and set ourselves up for problems. Provides consistency- allows assurance that all Cintas operations are running the same. Gives us competitive advantage- management systems convert mundane details into solid, customer beliefs. Invaluable training tool- outlines the best method for handling situations. Vital to communications within the company- provides common dialog. Advantage and flexibility of moving management resources- we promote from wihtin and move place to place, we maintain continuity and don’t waste time learning new systems and languages.
What are you personally doing to instill Cintas Culture in others?
I ‘walk the walk’ I lead by example at all times. Partners should never have to question my behavior when it comes to being fair and consistent.
As a manager, how do you build trust with your partners?
The simple 6, Take care of business, Know your partners on a personal level, Develop “go to” partners, Develop routines so partners know when/where to see me, Hold formal and informal social events, Hold partners accountable.
What things can be done to create an inclusive work environment?
Make sure everyone has a voice (open door policy), Partners feel welcome by fellow partners, Partners feel comfortable approaching leadership (I work side by side with everyone and show vested interest in their lives)
What are the 5 core attributes of the Cintas Diversity & Inclusion Strategy and highlight some components of each?
??
What is Affirmative Action? Why is it necessary for Cintas to have an Affirmative Action Plan?
??
What is the difference between Partner Engagement and Partner Endearment at Cintas?
Engagement is how the partner feels about Cintas and their job- how does the team come together for the overall goals and safety of the location, Endearment is what we do for our partners on a personal level- spirit week, birthdays, potlucks
What was your location’s overall engagement score on the most recent Partner Engagement Survey? What are you doing to improve engagement in the production department?
??
What is your location’s turnover? What is your production department’s turnover? What are your top 3 turnover positions in production? What are your top 3 reasons for turnover in production? What steps are you taking to retain production partners?
??
What is a “coffee chat”? Why are they important?
An open discussion forum with HR- it allows partners to give open feedback about their work enviroment.
Outline the steps a partner should take when communicating their questions, concerns, and/or problems to management. When should a partner utilize the Direct Line?
They should talk with their supervisor, then PM, then GM, then direct line
When should a partner utilize the Direct Line?
They should use the direct line when all other methods to resolve an issue internally have failed the partner
What is C.I.F.E?
??
What is the Simple 6?
Take care of business, Know your partners on a personal level, Develop “go to” partners, Develop routines so partners know when/where to see me, Hold formal and informal social events, Hold partners accountable.
What is Cintas’ philosophy on unions?
Partners have the right to say yes and the freedom to say no. Cintas believes partners work best without 3rd party interference. That we can provide partners with everything they need directly and they do not need to go to outside services to get those needs meet.
What do each of the letters in the acronym T.I.P.S. mean? FOE?
It is what you cannot do during a union organization campaign TIPS= Cannot Threaten, Cannot Intimidate or Interrogate, Cannot Promise anything, Cannot Spy. Can Share- FOE= Facts, Opinions, Examples
