Cell Cycle Flashcards
(10 cards)
Stages of Mitosis
- Prophase
- Metaphase
- Anaphase
- Telophase
Four Phases of Cell Cycle
-What is it?
Cell grows, prepares for division, and divides
- G1: 10 hours
- S: 9 hours
- G2: 4 hours
- M: 1 hour
Interphase
-3 stages?
- G1: cell growth
- S phase: DNA replication
- G2: preparation for mitosis
Spindle
Web structure made up of micro tubule fibers, arranged chromosomes on correct positions for cell division
Prophase
Chromatin in nucleus condenses to form pair of chromosomes. Nucleolus begins to break down. Centrioles move to opposite ends of nucleus. Nuclear membrane breaks down.
Metaphase
Spindle becomes fully developed and chromatid pairs place themselves in individual fibers and align along center of spindle. Nuclear membrane gone.
Anaphase
Chromatid pairs splits into two. Pairs travel to opposite end of spindle. The halved chromatids clef chromosomes
Telophase
Two new nuclei formed when chromosomes reach the opposite poles of cell. Nuclear membrane formed and nucleolus reappears. Chromosomes disperse in nucleus
Cytokinesis
Division of cytoplasm. Cytokinesis begins during anaphase
- Cell contains ____ of ___ chromosomes
- Reproductive cells only have ___ of chromosomes
