Cells Flashcards
(21 cards)
cell membrane
The membrane surrounding the cytoplasm of the cell and decides what goes in and what comes out
Cytoplasm
The jelly part holding the organelles in the cell
Organelles
The internal structures in the cell that have specific functions
Eukaryotes
Organisms whose cells contain a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles
Prokaryotes
Organisms whose cells don’t contain a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles
Mitochrondria
Takes in sugar to release it as energy
Ribosomes
To make protein/ they are the red dots of the cell
Vacuoles
Membrane-bound sacs used for storage
Nucleolus
The nucleolus is a round body located inside the nucleus, Its function is to rewrite ribosomal RNA
Nucleus
The nucleus is an organelle found in eukaryotic cells. It contains the majority of the cell’s genetic material, DNA.
Nuclear membrane
A membrane that surrounds the nucleus and nucleolus
Chloroplast
Is where photosynthesis happens
Cell wall
The cell wall is the wall around the plant cell
Cells
The building block of all living life
Microscope
An instrument for viewing small objects
Light Microscope
The instrument for viewing very small objects. A light microscope can magnify things up to 1500 times.
Electron Microscope
The instrument that is much more powerful than a light microscope and can magnify things up to a million times.
Stereo
Describes a microscope through which the specimen is viewed using both eyes
Unicellular
An organism having only one cell
Multicellular
Having many cells
Bacteria
A type of prokaryote cell that can be harmful and beneficial
